FACE AWARDS BELGIUM TOP 5!
'The moment Maureen talked about being inspired to go the extra mile after seeing my video's was nice of her, but It killed me when I didn't win!!'
This is my blog, my opinion, not here to diss peeps ,I love people in general 😉
Take this post as me just being honest and speaking my mind.
It must have been already one month since the finals of the NYX Face Awards, I've been digesting the night of the finals and I'm ready to write my last post about this topic.
Sooooooo, I didn't win, bummer! I support the judges choice to have a lovely winner in Maureen Naudts.
Did I have mixed feelings? Yes, at the end of the finals all I could think about was…I work my ass off and it never really pays off… (Yep one of those moments when you think the whole world is against you hahah sound familiar no?)
I was really disappointed and... did I shed a tear or two? Sure.
Being the only self employed make up artist in the top 5 I did feel like something was on the line here (let's not talk about asses two much here). LOL
BUT FIRST! Let's have a quick talk about the movie/tutorial that I made for the TOP 5 Challenge!
Eventhough we didn't knew the topic of the challenge I already wanted to film everything in a forrest. I was hoping they would've let us do an open topic so we could just pour our hearts out.
They decided the last theme should be METAMORPHOSIS. Allright allright everything about make up is all about metamorphosis right? So this topic felt like we could kinda freewheel here...
As I wanted it to make as personal as possible I implemented a few elements in the video that captured my interest when I was growing up.
First the fascination with stars and extra terrestrials (haha NERD) and the more ethereal music and style. I combined these into what it became.
I'm really proud on how it turned out. I filmed everything myself and was so pleased with the result that this inspired me to experiment more with that aspect of video. (filming)
I grew in a lot of aspects of the proces in producing and this was truly an experience.
From the first video #Comiccosplay where I relied on an external team of directors and cameracrew to film and direct everything kinda put me in a rage of stress.
I basically received all the material (in really pover quality) 90 minutes before I had to put it online, so I had to edit the whole thing in 90 minutes (or I was going to be disqualified).
The second entry #candyland I filmed everything in my studio (Make Up Academy België), lightning was a bit of a challenge though, but I loved most of the shots thanks to the make up and model. #topteam
For the last video I wanted to push myself and add the 3th dimension to it, scenery. It's not easy filming with natural light (yes I'm a control freak). I rented a lot of equipement and a good camera (#candyland was shot with my good old Canon 5D, great camera for photography but not for filming) ! We filmed for two days from morning till late at night to get the right shots. My spouse was a big help in assisting, holding lights giving his opinion and just overal being there and my model was an angel for having so much patience.
The moment Maureen talked about being inspired to go the extra mile after seeing my video's was nice of her, but It killed me when I didn't win (obviously everybody wanted to win haha).
I was disappointed that it wasn't enough to push myself and trying to be as original with my idea and make up looks as possible… and this still didn't really payed off…that night of the Final...
Would I recommend to participate on the NYX Face awards?! YES totally.
Listen, try to keep in mind that it is a beauty vlogger competition, not a make up artist of filmmaking competition. (Wich is great btw but I kinda misread that part hahaha GOD I'm such a bad loser haha)
You get tons of make up to be inspired by and the greatest reward, one that everyone gets is to have that chance to PUSH yourself to a higher level. (If you totally go for it that is…)
And with this I want to keep this in mind and remember it is not the win but the road to that truly pays off!
Cheers my dears! I'll keep on fighting and keep my spirit alive! greets Tom!
